December 25 to be Enthronement Day of Georgian Patriarch

December 25 is Enthronement Day of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

This year, Patriarch marks the 43rd anniversary of his enthronement. The Georgian Patriarchate holds no festive activity due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Georgian politicians congratulated Patriarch on the Enthronement Anniversary.

“For 43 years, our Patriarch leads the Georgian Church with great patience and virtue, praying for Georgia and each of us. I wish him long life, health, and vitality in the spiritual and national strengthening of our nation,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said in his congratulatory message.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, was enthroned on December 25, 1977, after the controversial Patriarch David V passed away. His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II has officially been the spiritual head of the Georgian Orthodox Church for 43 years.
