Davit Usupashvili, one of the leaders of the opposition Lelo for Georgia party signed the EU-brokered compromise agreement. He inked the paper at the EU Delegation in Georgia Office.
“Many problems are now ahead to be resolved for fulfillment of the agreement. This requires unity of the opposition and civic forces, those who understand that the country is on the verge of abyss,” Usupashvili said.
The Georgian political parties signed A way ahead for Georgia, a compromise document submitted to the parties by the European Council President Charles Michel, at the Orbeliani Palace on April 19.
Charles Michel’s new proposal implies electoral and justice reforms, offers a pardon for all violations and convictions stemming from the 19-21 June 2019 protests and the conduct of repeat parliamentary elections in 2022 if the ruling Georgian Dream party fails to receive at least 43 % of votes in upcoming municipal elections. Also, within 2 weeks following signing the agreement, the sides have to discuss politically motivated cases.
