“We reviewed 20 candidates and short-listed them to 5, among them is possibly Aleko Elisashvili, why not?!” said Davit Usupashvili, one of the leaders of the Lelo-Strong Georgia, in a live broadcast of Palitra News channel.

According to Usupashvili, the process for the selection of the Tbilisi Mayoral candidate will continue till September 4. He deemed this process as of “serious significance” since these are not “ordinary elections” but “another front of the fight with the government.”

When asked how likely it is that Lelo – Strong Georgia and Gakharia for Georgia could not agree on a neutral Tbilisi Mayoral candidate, Usupashvili noted that there is practically no chance of reaching an agreement on the joint candidate, though he added that “everything could happen.”

“Everything could happen, and we have witnessed everything. Two political forces agreed on coordinated work. They meet each other twice a day and are moving forward. We should select candidates not only in Tbilisi, but we have to agree on several thousand people. But is it possible not to reach an agreement over the Tbilisi Mayoral candidate? The possibility of this is about as much as the judge now releasing Mzia Amaghlobeli and saying that she is innocent. In this process, the expectation of agreeing on a common candidate is 99%,” he said.
