Court grants bail to eight people arrested for attempting to block entrance to Tbilisi
Tbilisi court has granted bail to eight people arrested for attempting to block a strategic or special-importance highway entrance to the capital on 2 February.
Judge Davit Kurtanidze satisfied the prosecutor’s office’s motion. After paying bail, the defendants will be released from prison.
The prosecutor’s office requested a 5,000-GEL bail for Gigi Ugulava and seven other people.
The court issued 5,000 GEL bail to Gigi Ugulava, Dimitri Bidzinashvili, Irakli Tabatadze, Irakli Tsignadze, and Aleksandre Gogoladze, 4,000 GEL bail to Nikoloz Kumsishvili, and 3,500 GEL bail to Vasil Eliava and Nikoloz Kutubidze.
According to the prosecution, “There are threats of the detainees committing new crimes, absconding, and destroying evidence.”
The mentioned detainees were charged under Article 19-222 of the Criminal Code for attempting to block a strategic or special-importance facility in a group. The charges carry a sentence of two to four years in prison.
