Constructive Institute CEO says Georgia, Denmark share same challenges in journalism

“The same challenges in journalism happen in Georgia as in Denmark,” Ulrik Haagerup, founder and CEO of Constructive Institute and author of the book Constructive News, said during his workshop for GPB First Channel producers, editors, and journalists.

Haagerup explained that today’s workshop discussed common problems and ways to solve them through constructive journalism.

“First of all, I am very impressed with the curiosity and open-mindedness of the people whom we have been so fortunate to welcome in Aarhus. That has been really fun and interesting to see that the same challenges in journalism happen in your country as in my country and everywhere.

I’m also impressed with the fact that you have, as a company really decided that you want to change, you want to move, to do things differently. You think that this idea of constructive journalism could be a core of that. I’m very humble with that.

I’m also really surprised and happy to see first of all, how many people are here and after more than an hour talk, they still seem to be awake. So, I hope now we can talk a little about what’s the problem for all of us and why is it important to do something different,” Ulrik Haagerup remarked.

The founder and CEO of Constructive Institute is in Georgia at the invitation of the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

On the first day of his visit, Ulrik Haagerup will lead a workshop for GPB First Channel producers, editors, and journalists.

The Constructive News Conference will be held on November 18th, aiming to introduce representatives from partner organizations to the constructive journalism approach that Public Broadcasting already employs.
