ComCom launches third national Media Literacy Olympiad for schools across Georgia

The Communications Commission (ComCom) has announced the third edition of its nationwide “Media Literacy Olympiad” for students and teachers, aimed at fostering critical thinking and media awareness across the school community. Schools throughout Georgia may submit entries from 21 September through to 21 October.

“Teams comprising students from Grades I–VIII and IX–XII, led by a supervising teacher, are eligible to enter on behalf of their school. Participating teams must prepare creative, informative projects, using and citing verified sources on the theme: ‘Media Literacy Starts with You – How to Build a Credible and Responsible Information Environment.’ Submissions may take the form of videos, podcasts, comic strips, or digital infographics.

“An expert panel will evaluate the submissions to identify the most informative and creative entries across both age brackets. The Communications Commission will equip winning schools with a modern media laboratory on-site, alongside high-tech prizes,” the Commission stated.

The ten best entries will be showcased on the official online media literacy portal (mediatsigniereba.ge), while all participating teams will receive digital certificates of achievement.

While team size is unrestricted, each participating group is allowed to submit only one project entry.

For context, last year’s competition drew nearly 350 submissions involving roughly 2,200 students and over 300 teachers nationwide. The jury awarded top honours to Lakhamula Public School in Mestia Municipality and Batumi Public School No. 1, both of which ComCom fitted with modern media laboratories.
