The leader of the political movement Strong Georgia Badri Japaridze, clarified the purpose of the Council of Europe delegation’s visit to Georgia, stating that it is not aimed at legitimizing the Georgian Dream government. Instead, Japaridze emphasized that the delegation’s visit is a response to serious concerns about human rights violations and the erosion of the rule of law in Georgia.

Japaridze explained that the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, highlighted that the delegation’s presence is driven by Georgia’s 25-year membership in the organization and its focus on human rights protection. He stressed that the ongoing violations of human rights and the rule of law in the country prompted their visit.

“They are here because of disturbing information coming from Georgia, not to legitimize any political group. Their visit is focused on addressing serious concerns regarding human rights and the rule of law,” Japaridze said.

He added that the delegation has met with various political and civil society representatives to gain a full picture of the situation in the country.
