Coalition for Change's Gvaramia anticipates increased and stricter sanctions

“I am confident that more sanctions will unfold, and they will be deeper and heavier. We are committed to this course of action, and I think we are doing it successfully,” stated Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Coalition for Change.

According to Gvaramia, if the Georgian Dream remains in power, it would signify that Russia continues to exert influence, making it highly unlikely for the Western civilized world to maintain visa liberalization for such a state.

“We will receive more and heavier sanctions. Financial sanctions will come from the U.S., and I presume from the U.K. Europe may face challenges in this regard, but sanctions will be imposed by individual countries—not the entire European Union. Still, this will be significant.”

“People should not fall victim to this situation. We must recognize that our actions represent a vital step towards removing the Georgian Dream, and we should pursue these steps consistently and without retreat. Otherwise, if the Georgian Dream remains in power, it indicates that Russia continues to hold sway, and visa liberalization from the Western civilized world for such a state will be impossible,” Gvaramia stated, emphasizing the importance of the current sanctions.

“We see that our protests—those of the people rather than just political leaders—are effective, and ultimately, the Georgian Dream will find itself at a dead end from which there is no escape,” he noted.

“Sanctions will come; I am confident of that, and they will be deeper and heavier. We remain committed to this approach, and I believe we are doing so successfully,” he concluded.

The European Council has decided to suspend visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports, following discussions at a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels on Monday, as announced by Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
