The civil funeral vigil at the Holy Trinity Patriarchal Cathedral in honour of Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, is continuing.

Ilia II was borne in a solemn funeral procession from the Patriarchate to Holy Trinity Cathedral yesterday, where the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan Shio of Senaki and Chkhorotsku (Mujiri), together with members of the Holy Synod, observed a memorial service for the repose of his soul.

The Holy Trinity Patriarchal Cathedral will remain open around the clock for all those wishing to pay their respects to Patriarch Ilia II.

His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II reposed on March 17 at the age of 93. A period of national mourning has been declared in Georgia. Patriarch Ilia II is to be buried at Sioni Cathedral on March 22.
