The Central Election Commission (CEC) deprived the United National Movement (UNM) and Coalition for Change of their electoral numbers.
Giorgi Santuriani, Head of the CEC Legal Affairs Department, explained that the two political parties had applied to the CEC with a request to retain their electoral numbers, 5 and 4, respectively, but refused to register for the October 4 municipal elections.
He added that the CEC would assign electoral numbers to 12 political parties, while free numbers 5 and 4 would be assigned randomly through the lottery.
“The numbers must be assigned to a total of 12 political unions, starting with one; all consecutive free numbers will be assigned through a running-order procedure,” he said.
