CEC Chair calls for objective information on election results, rejects fraud claims
Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), emphasized the importance of providing the public with accurate and objective information regarding the recent elections. He pointed to the positive preliminary assessments from international organizations such as OSCE/ODIHR, NDI, IRI, and NMO.
“These reports emphasize that election administration was carried out at a highly professional level,” said Giorgi Kalandarishvili.
He urged that any accusations of election fraud must be supported by solid evidence.
“Accusations of fraud are very serious. At this point, proper evidence must be presented, the facts must be established, and the relevant authorities must take appropriate action. Today is November 25, meaning a month has passed since the election day. The election administration was the body that, just days after the elections, addressed the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia regarding such allegations, requesting them to conduct appropriate investigations and ensure the public receives objective information. Among these allegations, there were cases where pressure was exerted on me personally, which indicated that there was no evidence to support the election claims,” Kalandarishvili concluded.
He called on the media and all political parties to respect voters and provide objective, researched information to ensure the integrity of the post-election period.
