The newly launched educational initiative of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the Election Media School, has concluded successfully.

According to the CEC, one of the primary objectives of this pilot project was to foster a more informed electoral environment and to raise awareness among students of the Faculty of Journalism regarding electoral matters.

The Chairman of the CEC, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and the CEC Spokesperson, Natia Ioseliani, awarded participants with certificates recognising their successful completion of the programme.

Giorgi Kalandarishvili expressed his gratitude to the young people for their active participation and conveyed his hope that the knowledge gained during the project would serve them well in their future endeavours.

Over the course of two weeks, students of the Election Media School delved into a range of vital topics, including electoral systems and models of election administration; electronic voting; voting procedures; creating an inclusive electoral environment; the media’s role in the electoral process; international practices; the rights and responsibilities of media outlets covering elections; the legislation and current practices in Georgia; disinformation as a global challenge and strategies to combat it; misperceptions and opinion formation, among others.

Notably, the participants shared insights and personal experiences through meetings and discussions with CEC leaders and invited experts.

This project was carried out within the framework of the existing memorandum between the CEC and the Youth Agency, as well as the agreements signed between the CEC Training Centre and higher education institutions.
