Branches and quotas will be determined within the framework of the labor migration agreement reached between Georgia and Portugal.

According to the International Organization for Migration, the Portuguese labor market will be studied after which the organization will provide the Georgian side with consultations.

The mechanism of the agreement’s implementation will be agreed between the sides and the quotas will be determined based on the demands on the labor market.

“Georgia is a country with big migration historically that was motivated mainly by social-economic factors. The greatest part of Georgian migrants represents the so-called ‘regular migrants’ who work in the informal sector in the European Union member states and face risks of violation of human rights. They have less social protection,” Head of the International Organization for Migration told Georgian First Channel.

Natia Kvitsiani, Coordinator of Local Programs of the International Organization for Migration said that there is a big demand on qualified construction workers and specialists of the transport sphere on the European labor market.

Portugal is also ready to cooperate with Georgia in the field of circular migration. This issue was discussed during the meeting held between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Portugal in Lisbon.
