Border Police detain five foreign nationals attempting to illegally cross border at Sarpi

Border police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained five foreign nationals, identified as A.H. (born 2001), M.U. (2003), A.J. (2006), I. (2006), and I.M. (2004), for attempting to cross the Georgian border illegally in a group at the Sarpi Guard Section of the Batumi Border Sector.

According to the Georgian Border Police, the investigation indicates that the group was attempting to bypass the border checkpoint from Georgia into Türkiye.

“The investigation is ongoing under Subsection ‘a’ of Part Two of Article 19-344 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment,” the Georgian Border Police stated.
