Ben Emmerson – True evidence of Russia’s crime in August War comes from Vladimir Putin
Russia did not prevent ethnic cleansing of Georgians and even participated in the process – Ben Emmerson, Georgia’s British lawyer stated during the final oral hearing into case Georgia vs. Russia at Strasbourg Court today.
“Russian forces together with separatists and other illegal band formations entered Georgian villages. They threatened civilians with killing if they did not vacate the villages. Some crimes were organized by Russian soldiers,” Emmerson stated.
According to British lawyer, military campaign being prepared during years aimed at occupation of Georgian territories; Russia plotted cleaning of occupied territories from ethnic Georgians. “True evidence of Russia’s crime in August War comes from Vladimir Putin,” he said.
The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights considered a suit filed by Georgia against Russia in connection with the 2008 armed conflict between Georgia and Russia.
