Batumi City Court reviews Mzia Amaglobeli's case

The Batumi City Court continues to review the case of Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti media outlets, regarding an alleged administrative offence.

Amaglobeli is attending the proceedings remotely and asserts that she does not consider herself an offender. While she admits to placing a sticker, she denies the claims in the detention report that she verbally insulted law enforcement officers, calling them false.

Her lawyers allege that the detention report has been falsified, citing video evidence that supports this claim. They highlight that during her arrest, Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze can be heard stating that Amaglobeli was being detained under Article 150 of the Administrative Offences Code for placing the sticker.

Contrarily, the detention report allegedly states that she was detained under Article 173 for insulting police officers.

Three law enforcement witnesses, including Deputy Chief of Batumi Police Gocha Vanadze, have testified on behalf of the prosecution. Currently, witnesses presented by the defence are being heard, and video evidence is expected to be introduced.

Amaglobeli was initially detained for one hour on January 11 near the Adjara Police Department building. Following her release, she was arrested again on criminal charges for allegedly slapping Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze, to which she also maintains her innocence.

In protest, Amaglobeli undertook a hunger strike lasting 38 days.
