Azerbaijan's President offers condolences to Georgian PM on passing of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has expressed his profound condolences to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze following the death of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.

In a heartfelt message, President Aliyev conveyed his deepest sympathies, recognising the significant spiritual and national legacy of the late Patriarch. Azerbaijani media outlets reported on the president’s condolence letter, highlighting the importance of this moment of grief for Georgia.

Following the death of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, on March 17, numerous diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, as well as representatives of various religious confessions, have offered their heartfelt condolences, recognising his profound spiritual leadership and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93.
