Azerbaijan's President offers condolences at Georgian embassy in Baku following passing of Georgian Patriarch Ilia II
President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, visited the Georgian Embassy in Baku to offer his condolences on the passing of Ilia II, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. During his visit, Aliyev signed the book of condolences that had been opened at the embassy.
According to the Azerbaijani presidential press service, President Aliyev also met with Georgia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze.
In his message, President Aliyev paid tribute to Ilia II, highlighting that the Patriarch dedicated his life to noble causes and the promotion of interfaith dialogue. He emphasised that Ilia II’s memory would be honoured with great respect in Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, Aliyev spoke of the significant role Ilia II played in fostering the longstanding friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Ambassador Pataradze expressed his gratitude to President Aliyev for his visit and condolences.
