Azerbaijan's President: Georgia and Azerbaijan, brotherly nations, support each other in international organizations

“Georgia and Azerbaijan maintain high-level, regular communications and political dialogue. Two brotherly, friendly countries are closely connected and always support each other in international organizations,” stated Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev during a joint press conference with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili.

Ilham Aliyev discussed Georgia-Azerbaijan relations and cooperation between the two countries in various areas, emphasizing the projects that Georgia and Azerbaijan are implementing together.

“For centuries, our people have lived in peace, good neighbourliness, and brotherhood. This continues today. Relations between our states are also at a high level. Georgia and Azerbaijan jointly implement important projects, and these projects are significant for our countries and a wider geography.

Of course, political relations are also developing. We have high-level connections. We have regular communications and political dialogue. Two brotherly, friendly countries are closely connected and always support each other in international organizations.

We are united by various projects that are important not only for our countries but for the entire world. These are oil and gas, transport, and communication projects. These are projects of great importance that create a transport map not only for the South Caucasus but for Eurasia.

Today, if we talk about Europe’s energy security, it is unimaginable without Georgia. Azerbaijan supplies its oil and gas to 12 countries through Georgia. This happens via Georgian territory. In the spheres of transport communications, we have infrastructure projects for ports and roads. These projects of ours are an integral part of the Middle Corridor.

Speaking today about the Middle Corridor in the South Caucasus, it is a corridor passing through Azerbaijan and Georgia, and the volume of cargo passing through our countries’ territories is increasing. For peace in the South Caucasus – this is our common issue and common project.

Unfortunately, for decades, the South Caucasus turned into an arena of conflicts. I hope that after this, all conflicts in the South Caucasus will end,” noted Ilham Aliyev.

Ilham Aliyev also stated that Georgia-Azerbaijan relations will develop further, and Mikheil Kavelashvili’s first visit to Azerbaijan after being elected president is significant.

“I can discuss Georgia-Azerbaijan relations at length, but I want to emphasize that our partnership will continue to grow. I extend my gratitude to the President once again and am confident that the Azerbaijani people recognize the significance of this decision. This visit, the first post-election, holds great symbolism for us. I also want to acknowledge that Georgia’s Prime Minister chose Azerbaijan for his inaugural visit. We are thankful for this and wish you all the best,” said Ilham Aliyev.
