Arrested for assaulting bailiff granted bail due to health concerns
Nino Datashvili, who was detained on charges of assaulting a bailiff, has been released on bail owing to her health condition.
Before the commencement of the trial, the Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement requesting a change to her preventive measure. They set the bail at GEL 5,000 with a payment deadline of 30 days. The defence concurred with this proposal, and the judge approved the prosecutor’s motion.
According to the prosecutor, medical examinations carried out on the defendant confirmed that she requires surgical intervention and ongoing treatment.
The defence team was also planning to submit the same motion during today’s trial, supported by a medical report from the Vivamed clinic.
Nino Datashvili participated in the proceedings remotely and expressed her gratitude to the prison administration for their care of her health.
“I would like to thank the prison administration and doctors; they did everything they could to improve my condition, but unfortunately, nothing worked, and I now require two surgeries,” Datashvili stated.
For context, Nino Datashvili was arrested on June 20 at the Tbilisi City Court in connection with an incident that occurred on June 9. She was charged under Part 3 of Article 353 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to assaulting a public official while performing their official duties. The prescribed penalties for this offence range from a fine to imprisonment for a term of four to seven years.
