Army helps in cleanup, search efforts in landslide-ravaged Shovi

Georgian Defense Forces, National Guards, reservists and rescuers continue disaster elimination and search efforts for the missing persons and bodies of those deceased in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality, Racha region.

Military units are dispatched at three locations based on the preliminarily agreed plan. The 102nd Battalion of the National Guards actively participated in the Borjomi forest-fire elimination works and underwent special training at the Emergency Situations Management Service.

Soldiers of the East and West Commands and Logistic and Engineering battalions with special equipment contribute to the rescue efforts.

The death toll of the August 3 Shovi landslide rose to 19. Sixteen people remain missing.
