Archil Talakvadze: Georgian experts should respond to the initiative raised by Luke Coffey

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze commented on the initiative proposed by the researcher of Heritage Foundation Luke Coffey on the deployment of US troops in Akhalkalaki.

Speaker said that strategic issues for Georgia are discussed with the US Government and Congress. As Talakvadze noted, at working meetings with representatives of the American authorities, the proposal to deploy the US contingent in Akhalkalaki was not discussed.

“This is an expert’s opinion, and, probably, Georgian experts should respond to it. The Georgian authorities are in constant contact and working communication with the US government and Congress. Discussion of strategic issues for our country takes place in these formats and such proposal has not been raised, ” – Talakvadze said.

Luke Coffey, the researcher of Heritage Foundation proposes to send US troops, leaving Syria, to Georgia. He notes that they could be deployed at a former Russian military base in Akhalkalaki to respond quickly if ISIS reconstitutes.
