Archaeologists discover IX-X century chain mail shirt during Rustavi Palace excavation

During excavations at a palace within the Rustavi Fortress, archaeologists have unearthed a remarkable chain mail shirt dating back to the IX or X century.

The archaeological expedition to the medieval palace, organised by Rustavi City Hall, commenced this July.

Throughout the excavation, the team uncovered several significant artefacts, including a helmet from the same period. Notably, this helmet is the only one of its kind in the South Caucasus among military relics from that era.
