Ambrolauri Airport conducts full-scale emergency drill

Ambrolauri Airport conducted a comprehensive emergency training exercise involving multiple government agencies and emergency services to test response protocols for security threats.

According to the United Airports of Georgia, the drill simulated a two-stage security incident: an unknown individual leaving a threatening letter at the airport, followed by an anonymous phone call announcing a planned terrorist attack using a drone.
Upon receiving the threat information, airport officials declared a general alert and activated the emergency operations centre, switching the facility to emergency operating mode.

Participating agencies included Ambrolauri Airport services, Georgian Air Navigation, regional police departments, evacuation services, aviation security units, and municipal fire, rescue and emergency medical teams.

“This full-scale simulation exercise was divided into two phases. The involvement of drones in simulation exercises is new for us, and Ambrolauri Airport is the first among Georgian airports to use unmanned aircraft in emergency drills,” said Airport Director Giorgi Murusidze.

The exercise aimed to assess response times and ensure coordinated, effective implementation of emergency procedures. All participating services operated under the international standards, with comprehensive drills conducted every two years per ICAO requirements.

Murusidze held a debriefing session following the practical exercise, where all participating agencies analysed the results and response effectiveness.
