Ahali's Gvaramia: Today's meeting with British Ambassador was success; protest within, sanctions without, and alternative on offer

“The Opposition Alliance has made its position clear: protest from within, sanctions from without, and the offering of a credible alternative. Today’s meeting with the British Ambassador was a success on all of these fronts. And yes, we are that alternative,” said Ahali Party’s Nika Gvaramia following the conclusion of the Opposition Alliance members’ meeting with the British Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward.

As Gvaramia noted, it was the British Embassy that took the initiative in arranging the meeting.

“The initiative came from the Embassy. The essential point is that we have our own vision for how the government must change. This is not merely a protest, though protest it unquestionably is, but also a vision for how to continue moving the country forward; for what comes after this government is gone. At this moment, the country is not moving forward; it is not even standing still. Every single day, it is moving backwards,” said Gvaramia.

He also noted that British sanctions had proved to be the most effective of those imposed thus far.

“Great Britain deserves particular mention in that its sanctions have proven to be the most consequential of all, and accordingly, their continuation is of the utmost importance,” said Gvaramia.
