Ahali's Gvaramia: Criticism Within Alliance Does Not Mean Its Collapse

One of the leaders of the ‘Opposition Alliance,’ Nika Gvaramia, stated that there is no confrontation within the alliance, although difficult discussions sometimes take place between its members.

According to Gvaramia, criticism inside the alliance should not be interpreted as a sign of collapse. He said that when the alliance was formed, its members understood cooperation would not always be easy.

“I wish it were otherwise, but when we created the alliance, we understood that things would not be easy. Criticizing one another does not mean the alliance is collapsing — at least, we have not reached that point.

What primarily unites the parties within the alliance is not mutual affection, but a shared goal: freeing Georgia from Bidzina Ivanishvili. In addition, we are united by the fact that we did not recognize the election results, did not participate in what we did not consider real elections, and will not take part in future votes that are also likely to be merely ‘elections’ in name.

This is what keeps us together, and if the alliance ever falls apart, it will be because someone no longer agrees with these principles. I hope that does not happen.

Any confrontation, even on a personal level, is uncomfortable. I generally avoid criticizing Mikheil Saakashvili and other prisoners, because those in prison naturally have greater freedom in expressing themselves emotionally than those outside. I say this both as a former prisoner myself and as someone who left friends behind in prison after my release, which is very difficult.

But I would advise everyone — not only alliance members, but also supporters — not to fuel confrontation. On the contrary, we should try to reduce such tensions as much as possible,” said Nika Gvaramia.
