Agriculture Minister to prioritise direct engagement with agricultural producers to drive progress
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songhulashvili visited the Imereti region to reaffirm his commitment to direct communication with those involved in agricultural production.
“Engaging directly with farmers and beneficiaries of state programs remains our highest priority. Today, in Imereti, we met with farmers and entrepreneurs at one of Georgia’s largest blueberry-producing companies, Agrolane. The success story of blueberry cultivation in Georgia exemplifies how, with ambition and strategic support, we can become one of the top 20 exporting nations in the global market within just a few years. Not long ago, the idea of cultivating blueberries on such a scale in Georgia seemed impossible,” Songhulashvili stated.
The Minister highlighted the importance of state assistance to the sector.
“Thanks to active state support—in the form of financial aid, knowledge transfer, technological advancements, and market access—today, blueberry orchards cover more than 2,700 hectares across the country. During our meeting with producers, we listened to their needs and challenges, and I assured them that government support continues unabated,” he stated.
The Minister also met with employees from regional departments of agencies under the Ministry, covering food safety, environmental supervision, forestry, laboratory services, and protected areas, and discussed current issues affecting their sectors.
“Strengthening the capacity of our agencies through professional staffing, adequate infrastructure, and modern equipment is essential for the effective implementation of our agricultural and environmental policies,” emphasised Davit Songhulashvili.
