Agriculture Minister meets Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources
During his official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgian Minister of Environment and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili met with Rashad Ismailov, the Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources.
Davit Songulashvili expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for their warm hospitality and underscored the importance of continued joint efforts in environmental protection.
“We value the cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in the field of environmental safeguarding. While our partnership already covers significant areas, there remains considerable potential for further strengthening, particularly in water resource management, biodiversity conservation, and collaborative responses to climate risks. Our aim is for this cooperation to translate into real, tangible progress in implementing effective environmental policies,” said Davit Songulashvili.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture, the two sides discussed the outcomes of the COP 2024 climate conference held in Baku, recognising it as a vital step towards reinforcing global climate policy, especially regarding financial support and the development of adaptation mechanisms.
The Azerbaijani colleague highlighted ongoing collaboration in biodiversity and protected areas management, including joint activities under the Memorandum of Understanding. The project in the Vashlovani Protected Area, dedicated to restoring the pelican population, was highlighted as a particularly exemplary example of successful environmental cooperation.
Attending the meeting alongside Davit Songulashvili were Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze, Head of the Department of International Relations and European Integration Davit Chitaishvili, Director of the Rural Development Agency Zurab Gozalishvili, Head of the National Food Agency Giorgi Iakobashvili, and Georgia’s Charge d’Affaires to Azerbaijan Maia Tabagari.
