Agriculture Minister highlights 270 state-co-funded processing and storage enterprises
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, visited a cannery in the village of Gamarjveba in Dedoplistskaro Municipality that was established with state support.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the cannery “GeoNaturals” was developed with financial backing from the Rural Development Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. Over one million Georgian Lari has been invested in the enterprise, including more than GEL 450,000 in preferential agricultural credit and GEL 370,000 in grant co-financing. The enterprise, which employs 40 people permanently, produced one million cans of preserves in 2024. The products are marketed under the brand name “Sadili” (Dinner).
David Songulashvili highlighted the growth in productivity within Georgia’s agricultural processing sector and noted that 270 enterprises have been established through the Rural Development Agency’s Processing and Storage Enterprises Co-Financing Program. These enterprises cover the processing of fruits and vegetables, hazelnuts, tea, walnuts, milk, fish, and meat.
High-quality Georgian products are now competing with imported goods in the domestic market and are gradually gaining a foothold in export markets. As the minister emphasised, the ‘GeoNaturals’ cannery is one of the successful enterprises created with government support, which has already established itself in the local market.
“It is noteworthy that, through the Rural Development Agency’s Processing and Storage Enterprises Co-Financing Program, 270 enterprises have been established across Georgia, co-financed with more than GEL 126 million,” the Ministry of Agriculture stated.
