Police detain 2 Turkish citizens in connection with Batumi murder case
The police detained two Turkish citizens in connection with the murder case in Batumi, the Adjara region, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported.
The Turkish nationals born in 2003 and 1998 were detained red-handed through comprehensive investigation-search measures, one on charge of premeditated murder and illegal possession and carrying of firearms and the other for failure to notify about the crime and unlawful crossing of the state border.
Investigation determined that one of the detainees shot and killed a third Turkish citizen born in 1976 in one of the restaurants in Batumi following a verbal conflict and escaped from the crime scene. Another Turkish citizen witnessed the crime but did not notify the police.
An investigation is opened under Articles 108, 236, 37,6 and 344 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The detainees face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
A foreign national was killed in a shooting incident at a property on Ninoshvili Street in Batumi on July 18, the MIA said.
