Irakli Shotadze: I am leaving my position and I am sure that justice will be fully served on this case
“I am leaving my position today and I am sure that justice will be fully served on this case”, – The statement released by Irakli Shotadze reads. Chief Prosecutor of Georgia Irakli Shotadze has reigned today.
“First of all, I would like to explain to the society that the decision made today is the first instance decision of the court; the lawsuit will definitely continue will continue and I am convinced that all offenders will be liable in full severity of the law. For that purpose, we have done everything – the society should know this.
For me, as for the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, the trust of each citizen towards our state institutions, especially towards the important part of justice – the Prosecutor’s Office, is of highest importance. At every moment of my service in this system, all my work has been directed towards establishing the rule of law and I would like to believe that our society, all of us together, will be able to establish the rule of law in our country.
Fair justice is especially important for me when dealing with murder of juveniles.
Today, the Prosecutor’s Office has submitted evidence to the court, which in my opinion would ensure fair verdict on the case. The first instance court did not fully accept these evidences and at this stage, a fair result was not achieved on this very hard case. However, this process will continue in the higher instance court and I believe that all offenders will be liable to the law.
There is one legal side of the case but the second is human attitude towards it.
I want to personally address the parents of teenagers killed on Khorava Street: I have been and I am with you. As the Chief Prosecutor of the country and as a father, neither my position is worth your child’s life and nor anything else. I want you to know that I did everything I could so that the offenders would be accountable for their crime. I believe that by this step you will be convinced that many unfounded, dirty accusations against me were aimed at political revenge against me, because under my leadership the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, has brought to the justice many former officials that had established in our country systemic injustice. I am sure that the restoration of justice will continue in our country and will come to the end.
Because I want you to believe in my words, I am leaving my position today and I am sure that justice will be fully served on this case.
I would also like to call on the public who wants to stand by the unhappy parents, to do everything to help the investigation and cooperate with him.
Finally, I would like to thank all the employees of the Prosecutor’s Office, who have been next to me for these years and who at the expense of their own security, work tirelessly in everyday manner to serve justice. I am sure that our agency will continue to develop and play a vital role in the development of a developed legal state” – the statement reads.
