Anti-Namakhvani HPP protest continues in western Georgia

Anti-Namakhvani HPP protester Varlam Goletiani claims blocking the road to the Namakhvani village would not impede their protest.

Goletiani said the police erected the metal fences earlier this morning, aiming to suppress the protest.

“We will continue to protest until our demands are met. Amid this situation, ENKA could not build the HPP in this gorge,” he added.

Rioni Gorge residents have been protesting the construction of Namakhvani HPP by Turkish company ENKA for about 5 months.

Anti-HPP activists are concerned about the HPP construction that could harm the environment.
