WHO Director-General honours Georgian Health Minister with certificate for achievements in Malaria elimination

Georgia’s Minister of IDPs, Labour, Health, and Social Affairs, Mikheil Sarjveladze, is participating in the 78th World Health Assembly held on May 19-27 in Geneva, Switzerland. This year’s theme is “One World for Health.”

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus opened the Assembly, highlighting Georgia’s significant progress in tobacco control and its successful fight against Malaria. In recognition of Georgia’s achievement in eradicating Malaria, he awarded Minister Sarjveladze a certificate, acknowledging the country as Malaria-free.

Minister Sarjveladze will also engage in bilateral meetings during the Assembly to strengthen international health cooperation.

Additionally, Revaz Lominadze, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations Office at Geneva, attended the event, representing Georgia’s ongoing commitment to global health initiatives.
