Wendy Morton, British Minister for European Neighborhood and the Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said that the United Kingdom continues to support the reforms in Georgia during the difficult political period following the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Morton wrote on Twitter that she had talked to Davit Zalkaliani, Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs to emphasize the need for all parties to reach a compromise.

Nine opposition parties that passed a 1% threshold to enter the new Georgian parliament refused to recognize the October 31 parliamentary election results, calling them rigged. The U.S. and EU Ambassadors to Georgia are facilitating the negotiations between the ruling Georgian Dream Party and the opposition, though the first two rounds ended in no promising results.
