“We should also consider the results of the study published by the European Commission and our ranking, being in the top twenty in Europe, from a political perspective,” said First Vice-Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski.

Volski was asked about the Rule of Law Index published by the European Commission, which shows Georgia in the top twenty among EU member and candidate countries for freedom from corruption, while Ukraine and Moldova occupy the first and second spots in terms of corruption levels.

As Volski pointed out, the European Commission’s study should be viewed positively, as it was compiled by impartial institutions.

“When the European Commission releases this study and rating, we should regard it quite positively, because objective and fair institutions produced it. The fight against corruption concerns issues of national security. However, at the same time, we must also assess our position, being in the top twenty in Europe, from a political standpoint.

How Brussels perceives Georgia on any issue, and what the true situation actually is. How they place us behind Ukraine and Moldova, and what authoritative studies reveal about the real picture. This is a matter that warrants particular public attention. I believe this again highlights where the bias lies, why it occurs, and what dark plans and ambitions these groups and their supporters have towards Georgia. These supporters are attempting to distort the reality for their own agenda,” Volski concluded.
