Vice Speaker Volski: Georgia has no diplomatic relations with Russia; even Ukraine has not officially severed ties
“We are the only country in the world that does not have diplomatic relations with Russia,” stated Gia Volski, a member of the parliamentary majority.
According to him, even Ukraine has not officially severed diplomatic ties with Russia.
“Not only Georgia, but the entire world understands that today you can express one position, but changing circumstances may lead to different statements. How can we envisage restoring diplomatic relations? We are the only country in the world that currently lacks formal diplomatic ties with Russia. Officially, even Ukraine has not broken off relations. For a long time now, since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has been transporting Russian energy resources through its territory, earning revenue for itself, while Russia has also benefited from this reality.
How is it possible that there are diplomatic embassies in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, and that we even open a separate embassy in Tbilisi, effectively recognising the existence of three states on this territory and establishing relations with them?
Medvedev has stated that Russia intervened in Georgia because of its own strategic goals, and that Saakashvili had created the preconditions for invasion. But these are simplistic formulations. The real issue is that any statement must always be verified by concrete actions,” Volski emphasised.
For reference, the Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that there are no prerequisites for the resumption of political dialogue between Russia and Georgia. They also affirmed that “Russia’s decision to recognise the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is irreversible.”
