Nino Tsilosani, the Georgian Parliament’s Vice Speaker, said there is a question about what the UK wants to achieve with imposed sanctions.

According to Nino Tsilosani, sanctions serve as instruments of political pressure or influence; however, it remains unclear whom these sanctions are intended to influence. She believes the recent UK sanctions are likely tied to specific political objectives.

“General Prosecutor must investigate crimes, including those committed during UNM regime, those gross violations linked to the overthrow, if these sanctions serve to impede the work of this person and other affiliated law enforcers, but the rationality of these sanctions is unclear. In this case, we ask what our friend country wants to achieve with the imposition of sanctions, and may this be linked to political goals? This is a rhetorical question and requires a response from the country it imposed,” she said.

On April 10, the UK imposed sanctions on four additional high-ranking Georgian officials, including the country’s General Prosecutor, for their roles in allowing severe human rights violations to persist in Georgia.
