Vice Speaker Gia Volski: Saakashvili’s stance rejecting reconciliation in favour of war will cause generational ruin

“While everyday relations between Abkhazians and Georgians have faced challenges, this does not pose an obstacle to the peaceful policy pursued by the Georgian Government,” Vice-Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski has stated.

According to Volski, former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s recent remarks were neither off-the-cuff nor born of mere folly.

“This is a calculated strategy designed to condition the public into accepting that entering war is unavoidable; a war intended, in their view, to defeat a hated Abkhaz society and serve as the sole path to restoring territorial integrity. Deep analysis is required, and the public possesses the necessary experience to see through it: they observe them saying one thing while meaning another, pursuing a policy led by Saakashvili that ultimately leads to the nation’s defeat.

Whether it is Gvaramia, Saakashvili, Baramidze, or Samadashvili, their statements are calibrated to create tension that will produce severe consequences within Georgian society and erect an insurmountable barrier to any trust-building process between Abkhazians and Georgians. I would not say this dialogue is currently taking place on a massive scale, but our strategic objective remains precisely the creation of an atmosphere of trust. Numerous positive steps have been taken in this regard, steps that are utterly unacceptable to the party of war. The directives accepted by these pseudo-politicians and unpatriotic figures pose a direct threat to our country. Saakashvili is voicing this stance explicitly: that no reconciliation should take place, and that Georgia must be dragged into war, even at the cost of utter destruction. This is not merely damaging; the calamity our opponents are offering us will ripple across generations,” Gia Volski stated.

For context, former President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on social media: “Anyone who thinks the path to restoring control over Abkhazia relies solely on winning over at most 50,000 Abkhazians has mush in their head instead of thoughts.”
