Vice-Speaker calls for rapid decisions amid price concerns
According to First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Gia Volski, the issue of rising prices is a top priority, and appropriate decisions are being made promptly.
Volski emphasized that there is no question of repressing businesses; all measures will be guided solely by the interests of society.
“Recent studies indicate that the topic of prices has become a central issue. Naturally, it requires in-depth research, but certain decisions must be made quickly. No business can prosper by taking advantage of society’s already tight resources. Of course, we are guided by European and American experiences, and this research can be considered scientific.
Regarding claims of business repression, we know what repression was—until 2012 it existed—, but today, there is no talk of repression. Any strict measures, if necessary, will only be taken in the public interest, though negotiations remain the priority. The hysteria surrounding this issue is driven by a small group, not legitimate opposition. They reject European or World Bank studies and instead aim to undermine the country. This is very unfortunate,” Volski stated.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, in a video message on consumer prices, added that the government will work closely with distribution and market chains to reduce prices. He also requested that Parliament establish a commission to study the issue thoroughly.
