“Kazakhstan is an important trade and economic partner for Georgia, and accordingly, within the framework of the Prime Minister’s visit, we expect that the economic relations between our countries will deepen further,” stated Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili regarding Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s visit to Kazakhstan.
According to him, in 2024, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 922 million dollars, with growing exports and re-exports from Georgia, making the relationship with Kazakhstan significant in this regard as well.
“Kazakhstan is one of Georgia’s important trade and economic partners, and accordingly, during this visit, we expect that these economic relations between our countries will deepen further. We will also sign an agreement on intellectual property protection, which is important to update.
Since 1997, we haven’t updated our formal cooperation format in this direction, which is very important considering the dynamic reality in this field in the modern world. It should also be noted that in 2024, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 922 million dollars. Exports and re-exports from Georgia are growing, so our relationship with Kazakhstan is crucial in this aspect as well.
Kazakhstan is also one of the significant sources of investment in our country. Foreign direct investment from Kazakhstan increased in 2024. We expect these investments to grow in the future, both this year and especially from 2026 onwards. Several important investment projects are being considered, particularly in the energy sector.
We will also discuss cooperation in the transportation sector. Transport is one of the areas where the two countries have close cooperation, especially in railway transportation. 2024 was notable because the first multimodal trains started moving from China through Kazakhstan towards Georgia. The role of the Middle Corridor has been increasing in recent years. In this regard, we are moving to a new stage of cooperation. We have created a joint venture between the railways of Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, which will simplify cargo transportation.
Tourism is also in attention as Kazakhstan ranks sixth as a significant tourist partner country. Nearly 200,000 tourists visited Georgia from Kazakhstan, and I hope this trend will continue,” stated Levan Davitashvili.
