Vice PM Mdinaradze: They can do nothing on May 26; we faced much greater threat on October 4, and state institutions prevented trouble

“I can tell you with full responsibility that I possess the relevant information: they can do nothing. On October 4, we faced a far more serious threat, and it was the state institutions that managed to prevent us from falling into trouble,” stated Mamuka Mdinaradze, Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and State Minister for the Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies, during a briefing today.

According to Mdinaradze, the government was able to quickly resolve the situation on the same day and arrest the coup organisers.

“They will not be able to carry out such actions on May 26. I can affirm with complete certainty, based on the data I have, that they will not succeed. On October 4, a much greater threat was at hand, and the state institutions successfully averted a major disaster. We were able to conclude everything easily that same day, ensuring the arrest of the coup leaders and neutralising those actively participating or potentially involved in advance. This was a major joint operation by the agencies, which produced positive results. Such an event cannot be planned for May 26,” Mdinaradze asserted.
