UNM's Pavlenishvili says GD spends money on lobbying

“Bidzina Ivanishvili has spent so much money on lobbying that if anyone could achieve anything in the international press, it would be Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream,” said Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) party.

According to Pavlenishvili, lobbying in the US is legal, and the GD used the service of different companies with that purpose.

“If this is a crime, why do they do the same? It is a normal practice for both the American and Georgian political spectrums. There is nothing unlawful or confidential when a lobbyist company assists us in establishing contacts. The Georgian Dream has spent a lot of money on that purpose,” he said.

U.S. Department of Justice published a new document on the FARA page which dscribes activities of Nelson Mullins company hired by the UNM party.

According to the document, the UNM, through a lobbying group, has been conducting a PR campaign since July 2025. The document mentions meetings held by lobbyists with media outlets and journalists. The list of media outlets includes: Washington Examiner, Reuters, Newsmax, The Hill, the document mentions meetings at the offices of congressmen and senators and communication with representatives of the Trump Administration.

Earlier, the document from the U.S. Department of Justice published on September 18, said that the United National Movement opposition party signed a contract with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP on July 7, paying USD 360,000 for six months of services.
