UNM’s Pavlenishvili: Saakashvili sometimes reflects on past, present and future; no need to scrutinise his every post; he fights no one
“Mikheil Saakashvili is fighting no one, least of all Nika Melia,” declared Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement.
Pavlenishvili commented on a post by the former President of Georgia, in which Mikheil Saakashvili wrote: “Melia had absolutely no part in the logistics of my case. Melia’s mistake was that he dispersed yesterday’s rally, which had been held to demand my release and was more numerously attended, when in fact winning the elections in Tbilisi was impossible without my release.”
In Pavlenishvili’s assessment, this was not a negative post.
“I genuinely have no wish to spend my time commenting on posts. In this particular instance there is truly no confrontation whatsoever. Mikheil Saakashvili is a political prisoner; he sometimes reflects on the past, sometimes speaks of the present and the future, and for that reason picking through his every post in search of evidence that he is fighting someone is really quite unnecessary. He is fighting no one, and least of all Nika Melia,” Pavlenishvili stated.
As regards Saakashvili’s recent criticism of the opposition, Pavlenishvili argued that Saakashvili does not have the resistance political forces in mind. He also set out the Opposition Alliance’s straightforward plan.
“Peaceful protest, an active protest movement, large-scale and energised rallies of the kind we saw on May 26, targeted point-specific demonstrations as well, and the continuation of resistance. That is our plan,” said Pavlenishvili.
