UNM's Pavlenishvili: It's shameful when people in occupied Georgia rejoince in something against Ukraine but beneficial to Russia
“Ukraine is facing difficult challenges at this moment, including during winter conditions. However, it does not mean that Russia will not be defeated,” said Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) party.
According to Pavlenishvili, Russia cannot achieve its strategic goals.
“It’s shameful when people in occupied Georgia are happy to hear something that is against Ukraine but is beneficial to Russia. This is a red line for me, and I can never imagine myself in a condition where I would rejoice in negative information about the nation fighting for freedom that would benefit our adversary, the occupant country. This is a disaster for this country.
War is awful, though Russia cannot achieve its strategic goals, which are demilitarization and seizing Kyiv, destruction of the Ukrainian state. No political publication or expert believes that Russia is winning. Russia had different goals at the beginning of the war.
It is a difficult moment for Ukraine. It is hard to wage a war with a force which was recognized as one of the leading military forces in the world. However, anyone who believes that Russia will achieve its imperialist ambition, demilitarization and de-nazification of Ukraine, that there will be no Ukrainian statehood, or that Ukraine will reject Western integration and sovereign politics, is mistaken.
The Russians will be defeated in this war, and they are being defeated. Ukraine is facing difficult challenges at this moment, including winter and Russian aggression conditions. However, it does not mean that Russia will not be defeated,” he said.
Remarking on the U.S.-backed peace plan, Pavlenishvili said the document included many points, which were unacceptable to both Ukraine and Russia. But he hoped that the plan would be modified, referring to the statement by Marco Rubio (United States Secretary of State), who said it was a “draft and not the final version.”
