UNM's Pavlenishvili: EP resolution stresses Saakashvili’s release and his role in EU integration

“The European Parliament resolution once again emphasizes the need to release Mikheil Saakashvili and highlights the historical truth that he and the United National Movement were key figures in Georgia’s path toward European integration,” said Irakli Pavlenishvili, Deputy Secretary General of the National Movement.

“This resolution clearly focuses on our party’s founder, who remains imprisoned. It reiterates the necessity of his release and reaffirms that both Saakashvili and the National Movement were the main standard-bearers for European integration. That is precisely why we are witnessing an intensified campaign against our party and its leader.

The resolution explicitly warns against maintaining the status quo or normalizing Ivanishvili’s regime. The European Parliament has spoken clearly—just like political prisoners, their families, eight opposition parties, and civil society organizations already have. Who else needs to say it? Ivanishvili certainly won’t,” Pavlenishvili stated.
