UNM's Parulava: Democratic opposition stands united in demands to end repression and hold free elections

According to Lasha Parulava, a member of the United National Movement, the democratic opposition is united in its core demands: ending repressions and terror, securing the release of political prisoners, and conducting new, genuinely free elections.

He emphasised that concrete steps must be taken to realise these goals.

“The democratic opposition is united around two main demands: the release of political prisoners, the cessation of terror and repression, and the organisation of new, free elections, which must be held without Ivanishvili’s Russian regime. This is our firm stance, and there are tangible steps to achieve these aims. We are developing a plan aimed at making our struggle more effective. The ultimate goal is not only to force Ivanishvili to step back but to remove him from power altogether.

I repeat, our demands are clear: an end to repression and terror, the release of political prisoners, and free elections. The entire democratic society shares these demands. We are working on concrete steps and a joint action plan. We both agree with Zura and are actively collaborating on these initiatives. Naturally, it would be beneficial if others also joined the framework agreement that the democratic opposition is preparing,” Parulava stated.

When asked about Zourabichvili’s role in these processes, whether she would be active only in foreign affairs or if more responsibilities are to be assigned, Lasha Parulava explained that there is no designated leader in this struggle.

“This movement is horizontal; there is no single leader. The real leader is the Georgian society itself, which has been standing on Rustaveli Avenue for over a year demanding the release of political prisoners. Both Salome Zourabichvili and various opposition leaders are equal participants,” he emphasised.
