UNM’s Lasha Parulava: Germany stands in solidarity with citizens defending our nation’s European future
“We not only respect the German programs that have contributed so significantly to our homeland, but we firmly believe that we share a common future within the European family,” stated Lasha Parulava, a member of the United National Movement.
According to Parulava, the support extended by Germany is directed squarely at the citizens of Georgia.
“If anyone in our country is defending democracy and our European future, it is our fellow citizens. Ivanishvili locked the door that Brussels had opened from Tbilisi. Our citizens are fighting to force that door open once again. It is precisely this society, these patriots of our country, who enjoy the full support of the German state. We not only respect Germany’s assistance and programs, which have made an immense contribution to our nation, but we believe that we have a shared future within the European family, regardless of what Georgian Dream does. Georgian Dream is our country’s past, and very soon the Georgian people will turn this heavy, disgraceful page,” Parulava stated.
For context, the German Embassy in Georgia released the first official statement from the newly appointed Ambassador, Barbara Voss:
“The current tension strains Germany’s and the EU’s relations with Georgia. Nevertheless, Germany’s active support for the country’s democratic and pro-European course remains as strong as ever,” Voss stated.
