German Ambassador: Current tensions strain relations with Georgia, but German support for Georgia’s pro-European path remains strong

The German Embassy in Georgia has released the first official statement from the newly appointed Ambassador, Barbara Voss.

“The current tension strains Germany’s and the EU’s relations with Georgia. Nevertheless, Germany’s active support for the country’s democratic and pro-European course remains as strong as ever,” stated Voss.

For context, Barbara Voss has been appointed as the new German Ambassador to Georgia. She succeeds Peter Fischer, whose term of office expired on June 30, 2026.
