UNM's Khabeishvili: We must defend freedom and democracy, even by force

United National Movement member Levan Khabeishvili has urged political parties and state-minded individuals to take a clear stance on the Georgian Dream’s initiative to abolish the UNM.

Khabeishvili underscored the necessity of countering force with force and, if needed, physically defending the nation’s freedom and democracy.

“Mamuka Mdinaradze announced that he is officially initiating the process to abolish the United National Movement and will appeal to the Constitutional Court. I call on political parties and leaders—including Salome Zourabichvili—to state their positions on the matter. This is not just about the United National Movement but a broader issue for the country. Mdinaradze is likely to hold the Constitutional Court in Batumi. I call on supporters of the UNM, patriots, and non-partisan citizens who care about this country to physically resist—whether in Batumi or elsewhere—if necessary, even using force to defend Georgia’s freedom and democracy.

It is crucial to take a stand against the abolition of the United National Movement. I urge those who think in a state-oriented way and are ready to counter force with force to join us. Nihilism and hopelessness only serve Russian propaganda. We must prevent so-called law enforcement from abducting and torturing protesters.

Until we respond with equal force, we will remain on the defensive. To defeat oppression, we must act decisively—just as Ivanishvili’s regime does. It is also vital that political forces speak out against the abolition of the United National Movement. Those who remain silent, including the Gakharia party, are, in my view, merely Bidzina Ivanishvili’s pocket opposition,” Khabeishvili stated.
