UNM's Khabeishvili to opposition: Is there rally on May 26 or not? You have no campaign whatsoever, no activity at all

“Nothing will come from outside if we, the people, do not wake up. I am not criticising anyone. I am not criticising the opposition, I consider myself part of these people. This country does not belong to politicians, it does not belong to political leaders; this country belongs to every single citizen, and the struggle belongs to every one of us,” declared Levan Khabeishvili, a member of the United National Movement, at a court hearing.

Khabeishvili called upon the opposition to make clear to the public whether a rally would take place on May 26.

“The one thing I ask of the opposition: tell me, is there a rally on May 26 or not? I have no access to social media, and I cannot see from the television whether there is or there isn’t. This is not a reproach or a grievance. As a supporter, as one ordinary backer among many, someone who, should you become leaders tomorrow, will vote for you and back you, I want to know. If you are doing something on May 26, I implore you: say so on television at least twenty-six times. That is my request so that I, as a television viewer, might be told: Is there a rally on May 26? Is there not? Are we turning out? Should there be many of us? Should we carry on? Tell the people. I may not be able to join you at the rally on May 26, but for those who are watching you, at the very least, tell them: Will this rally happen or not? You should know full well that, regrettably, you have no campaign whatsoever planned for May 26, no activity at all. This is not a rebuke. It is not a criticism, but the position of a supporter. A month and a half has passed, a rally has been announced, and the people deserve to be better informed. The people, too, must feel a sense of responsibility. Politics has become a pursuit in which, if you engage in political activity, you end up in jail. And so, pointing the finger at these politicians for everything is not entirely the right thing to do; after all, there is much about them that I dislike too, and there is much about me that they dislike in return,” Khabeishvili declared.
